The town of Salento, as well as others in the department of Quindío, were created shortly after independence from Spain.
The creation of the new Republic of Colombia gave rise to a migration called "Antioquian Colonization" in which towns with unique architecture, a charming culture and surrounding exorbitant nature were founded.
