Lorca: A Step in Time. A Historical and Monumental Tour of the City of Lorca
Tour description
Welcome to Lorca, a step in time!
On this tour, we'll learn about the history of Lorca and its transformation through its most emblematic buildings. We'll discover how Lorca has witnessed different civilizations throughout history, leaving their mark on the city to this day.
We'll begin this tour at the Convent of La Merced, where I'll explain the purpose of this iconic monument. We'll also discuss life in Lorca during the Late Middle Ages and the main problems facing the citizens of that time.
We'll continue our tour to Plaza de España, where we'll find a monumental complex comprised of the religious, civil, and judicial branches. We'll step back in time to learn how the heart of Lorca was built.
Our next stop will be the Glorieta de San Vicente, where we'll see a 3x1. The milestone column, with the image of Saint Vicente Ferrer on top, and the ancestral home of the Marín Ponce de León family.
We'll explore one of the most iconic palaces in the Murcia region. It was one of the buildings that introduced the Baroque style to the Spanish Levant. We're talking about the Guevara family's palatial home.
We will conclude this tour with a visit to the palatial house known as "Huerto Ruano," where we will be able to observe how a wealthy merchant introduced the eclectic style, previously unknown in Lorca in the second half of the 19th century.
