You wouldn't expect to find a Spanish city on African soil with a historic military fortress, modernist architecture and a fusion of Mediterranean, European and African cultural heritage. An apprentice of Lluís Domenech called Enrique Nieto, who is credited with inspiring the city's collection of modernist buildings, and a legacy of curved buildings with natural motifs that can be seen in the city's Golden Triangle. Hello, my name is Patricia and I am an official guide of Melilla, a beautiful African city bathed by the Mediterranean. As a guide of Melilla I love to teach all interested travelers about its history, typical places and curiosities. My tour will not leave you indifferent, you will learn interesting things and have a more than pleasant time. So if you do not want to miss the fun and get to know Melilla, do not hesitate and come and enjoy!

Tour description

Embark on a fascinating journey through Melilla's history with this guided tour and discover the rich heritage of a city that has been inhabited for almost 3,000 years.

Our tour begins at the Plaza de los Aljibes , where we will meet to marvel at the imposing architecture of the Almacenes de las Peñuelas , currently part of the Museums of Melilla, these warehouses date back to the 18th century.

After visiting the spectacular Plaza de los Aljibes, we'll delve into the citadel's Castilian history from the Puerta de Santa Ana and its Gothic Chapel. During this visit, we'll immerse ourselves in the historical context and daily life of "Old Melilla" between the 16th and 18th centuries.

Then, from the Puerta de Santa Ana and the Capilla de Santiago , we will resume our historical walk through the halls of the Melilla Archaeology Museum, admiring the incredible military models of the citadel that will transport us to what life was like in Melilla between the 19th and 20th centuries.

We will continue our visit in the Plaza de Don Pedro de Estopiñan, where there are three points of great cultural interest: the Governor's House , the Ramada Chapel and the Royal Battery.

Finally, after skirting the Wall of Crosses and admiring Cape Tres Forcas with the sea in the background, we will say goodbye at the Melilla Interpretation Center inside the Torreón de las Cabras.
