The Amsterdam Rogue Tour (Adults Only +18)
Tour description
On this tour, we'll explore Amsterdam's seedy and grittier side. The things that don't always appear in guidebooks and that historians rarely mention. In a candid and frank way, we'll discuss the origins of the "world's most tolerant city," its tolerance of drugs and prostitution, current legislation and its history, and everything related to the present day, all within its historical context.
Don't be alarmed by a direct, ironic, satirical, and sometimes hurtful style.
We will talk about the birth and expansion of coffee shops, their origins and, of course, the present day.
We will talk about the Provos, a youth social movement from the 1960s that has a lot to do with what we are currently experiencing in the city.
We will not forget prostitution. With a brief overview of its origins in the early centuries, we will arrive at what has been happening in Amsterdam for the last half-century, a situation that is constantly changing and evolving.
Leaving Dam Square, we'll explore the area around the Red Light District (legal restrictions prohibit entering the district itself), Warmoestrast, the street that leads into the district, until we reach Zeedijk, the city's eastern street. We'll arrive at Nieuwmarkt, the old city gate, and then skirt the Jewish Quarter, ending at the famous Floating Flower Market, parallel to Reguliersdwarsstraat, Amsterdam's most vibrant street.
In short, a different, alternative tour, just for Adults, which will allow you to complement other more general historical visits.
