Xi’an-born, Berlin-seasoned carb fanatic (wheat > everything! 🌾). Blame my Shaanxi DNA for my Italian food obsession—did you know they’re basically carb cousins?—and my undying coffee addiction. Raised by a mom who mapped Xi’an’s best bites, now I’m here to share my secrets. Let’s hunt hidden back-alley restaurants and specialty coffee!
This isn’t just a cooking class, it’s something much more special. It’s a family opening the doors of their home wide open and sharing their table and their lives with you. No judgement, no rush, just genuine warmth, as if you were a long-lost relative they hadn’t seen in years. As a solo traveller, I’ve been through much of Europe, several cities in North America, and spent some weeks in Southeast Asia, and I’ve never come across anything quite like this. If you’re passing through Xi’an, don’t even hesitate. It’ll help you throw your prejudices about China out the window - and you’ll eat like the last emperor. Wen Qi’s mum’s dumplings are out of this world (yours will indeed look like sad little pillows, but hey, that’s part of the fun). Thank you, dear family, for a truly wonderful afternoon!
I can highly recommend Dafu‘s cooking course. With her open and warm manner, she far exceeded my expectations. The insight into the local cuisine was very authentic. It was especially nice that Dafu's mother welcomed me so warmly. I immediately felt welcome. The visit to the market was a highlight. Dafu showed me a variety of local specialties and enthusiastically shared her extensive knowledge of ingredients and preparation. At home her mum teached me how to prepare and cook local dishes. This was honestly the best tour we've ever done on Guruwalk (and we've done them all over the world). We browsed the market and then went to the guide's apartment and along with her mother, made dumplings, biang biang noodles, and also sampled a number of other side dishes. My kids and I really enjoyed - I can't recommend this experience enough!
Was für eine liebenswerte Familie! Dafu ist wirklich eine perfekte Gastgeberin – sie hat uns nicht nur die verschiedenen Nudelgerichte Xi'ans vorgestellt, sondern auch viele faszinierende Legenden erzählt. Wir waren mit drei Kindern unterwegs, und sie hatten sogar extra einen zusätzlichen Tisch für sie vorbereitet! Das war definitiv das unvergesslichste Erlebnis unserer Reise, besonders für Familien mit Kindern. Die Kleinen haben zusammen so viel Spaß gehabt!
Se siente como estar en casa. Hicimos fideos y dumplings, fue muy divertido. El proceso de amasar es muy parecido a hacer pan, pero no exactamente igual. Aquí probamos comida china completamente diferente a la de España, ¡muy recomendable!
