Leon Romano Free Tour with local tour guides
Tour description
Currently there is a lot of promotion and dissemination of the legacy that the Romans left in León. And how in different areas recovery and conditioning work is still being done for later access, we have created this Free Tour in our city.
Do you know who Corocota or Pintaius was? How was Ludus Latrunculorum played? What is commemorated in the "Birth of the Eagle" ? o Why did they paint the wall? All this and much more characters such as: Publio Carisio, Marco Ulpio Trajano... are waiting for you in the best Free Tour of the Roman Lion.
At the indicated time our local guide (great passionate about the Roman Empire) will wait for you in the Cathedral square where we will begin our private journey to the Roman Lion . In this location the Principia were found. Nearby we have the Archaeological Crypt of Puerta Obispo (which we will go down whenever possible) with archaeological remains of the Baths (the Baths) and the Puerta Sinistra that allowed the passage to the Legio VII gemina . We will take a nice walk along the old Via Principalis (now Calle Ancha), to reach the walls.
We will make a brief pause in the Jardines del Cid, where we will show you remains of fragments of the old Aqueduct as it passed through Puerta Castillo , where the Soldiers' Barracks were located. We will continue our Free Tour visiting the vestiges of the wall in different places (Ruiz de Salazar Street, San Isidoro Square, Era del Moro Street, in conditioning works for later access).
We will finish at the Interpretation Center of the Roman Lion , where you will see seven rooms (with a wide historical and archaeological heritage that our city houses) and a garden with the excavated remains of the old Church of Santa Marina.
