São Paulo's Black Movement History Tour

Welcome to São Paulo! It is an honor to be able to show you around and share some of this city's important and forgotten modern history. The concept of this free tour is to take you to some of the most popular monuments and places in the city, while combining it together with a history that outlines a structure of laws and codes that were put in place to cause Brazil to interpret black people as the enemy of a society that tried to erase the existence of black people here completely. We will see where and when Brazilian racism was strengthened and how it was systematically installed in the city of São Paulo. This tour also focuses on how the city was built and how Afro Brazilians played an essential role in its development. The tour begins in the - Metropolitan Cathedral of São Paulo - Then Museum of Tribunal Justice, - The Japanese-Brazilian Church of São Gonçalo - The Chapel of Our Lady of the Afflicted - The Holy Cross Church of the Souls of the Hanged - Freedom Square - Cemiterio dos Enforcados. (The Cemetery of the Afflicted) - A Viewpoint over the Bixiga Italian neighborhood. - A Visit to both Bixiga and Liberdade neighborhoods that today are considered traditional neighborhoods for local Japanese and Italian culture as they were once neighborhoods that were places of refuge for the enslaved after the end of slavery. The intention of this tour is to find a narrative about the Black Movement in São Paulo in order to learn not only about the colorful history and culture of this city along with its courageous people but to also learn from those mistakes and to improve our future.
