Since 2015 I have been working as a guide, organizing tours in Sicily and Southern Italy: initially for groups of Spanish and Italian tourists, in the last three years for the Latin American market (Argentines, Brazilians, Uruguayans, etc.). Devourer of history and archeology books since I was little, I am passionate about Mediterranean art and culture. Proud of my Sicilian roots, I love to convey to travelers my love and passion for a unique land, Sicily.
On this unique and original tour, we will walk through the streets of Catania and weave the history of the monuments to the most outstanding historical events of the second largest city in Sicily.
Rebuilt more than seven times, after eruptions, wars and earthquakes, Catania has managed to be reborn, like a phoenix, more beautiful than ever.
The tour will start from the central Piazza Stesicoro to learn about the ancient origins of the city.
Through the ruins of the Roman Amphitheater, the fourth largest in Italy, we will travel through a timeline that begins with the Greek founding of "Katane" and ends with the fall of the Roman Empire.
We will move to the monumental and scenic Via Crociferi, where, among imposing and sumptuous buildings, we will learn about the history of the Sicilian Baroque, an expression of the joy of living.
We will follow in the footsteps of a great composer and the greatest exponent of Italian bel canto: Vincenzo Bellini, "the swan of Catania".
We will visit Piazza Mazzini, symbol of the rebirth of the city after the terrible earthquake of 1693.
We will catapult into the Middle Ages, culminating our walk in the shadow of the imposing Ursino Castle, a masterpiece of military architecture.
The visit will end in the Federico di Svevia square, a place where cafes and restaurants with cheap menus abound.
The explanation will be enriched with anecdotes about popular traditions and customs, legends and myths, Sicilian lifestyle, etc.
We will avoid places like the Plaza del Duomo because you can find information about it in any tourist guide, but we will know less trite corners and very important to understand the history of this magical city.
For all this, the suggested price per person is from € 10. If this makes you doubt, take a look at the opinions!
