Free walking tours in San Juan

I’ve taken a number of free walking tours all around the globe and this was easily one of the best. Frank was knowledgeable, entertaining, detailed, communicated effectively, and was open to adjusting the tour to our specific areas of interest. His breath of knowledge was truly remarkable and it is clearly a labor of love, love of Puerto Rico and a love of adventurous exploration in general. Frank’s professionalism as a guide was exceptional; we cannot recommend him highly enough! The tour was an easy and comfortable walk, with plenty of time to take photos at landmarks and picturesque vistas. Excellent communication prior to arrival. You will not be sorry to have Frank as your guide in Old San Juan.

Charlene gave a thorough overview of old San Juan in an entertaining and engaging way…since it was just me on the tour, we had a one-on-one conversation about the beautiful places we were walking past; she graciously answered the questions I had and looked up in real time anything she wasn’t sure about. This tour has been the highlight of my stay in Puerto Rico.

Hicimos el tour por Old San Juan con Charlene y fue una experiencia fantástica. Súper amena, cercana y con muchísimo conocimiento de la historia y la cultura de la ciudad. Explica todo de forma muy entretenida y consigue que el recorrido se pase volando. Además, nos dio recomendaciones muy útiles para seguir disfrutando de San Juan después del tour. The tour was better than we expected, Charlene was so informative, passionate and she answered all our questions, we had a 11 months old baby and she was very caring.

This was a great experience and very insightful. Charlene took us through a curated route, covering everything in depth. She also helped us capture pictures and shared recos of what to do in Puerto Rico. Would recommend this on day 1

She arrived on time. It has started raining prior to her getting there. She provided umbrellas for the tour. Very knowledgeable, told us all the stories of Old San Juan. It was an easy walk, tour lasted just over 2 hours. She said they keep tours to a small group to provide better service. Would definitely recommend her!

Charlene modified her original itinerary based on the needs of the group. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful the entire time. I had such an amazing experience on this walking tour in San Juan! From start to finish, it completely exceeded my expectations. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging—bringing the history of the city to life with stories and insights you’d never get exploring on your own. We covered all the highlights, from colorful colonial streets to hidden gems I would have totally missed otherwise. The pacing was perfect, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions, take photos, and really soak in the atmosphere. What I appreciated most was how authentic and personal the experience felt. It didn’t feel like a scripted tour—it felt like discovering the city with a local friend who genuinely loves what they do. If you’re visiting San Juan, I 100% recommend this tour. It’s the perfect introduction to the city and easily one of the best walking tour I’ve had!

I have used free walking tours before – they help give me the lay of the land and help me decide where I might want to head back to… this tour did just that. Charlene was patient from the start when we had a little bit of trouble finding the meeting point after leaving the cruise ship so we were about eight minutes late. She was quite knowledgeable about the history and the route we were on and afterwards provided recommendations for places to eat and also photos that she took both of us and of some of the old San Juan sites we might want to have.

Carmella was a wonderful guide! She was interesting and had lots of information to share. As a former history teacher, I was impressed with her knowledge of the history of San Juan as well as her ability to answer questions. She was enthusiastic and energetic.

We learned so much from Carmen! She’s so knowledgeable about the city and its history. She was able to answer all of our random questions and gave lots of helpful tips about other places to visit and puerto rican food to try. Definitely recommend!

Great Tour and very informative. They said they try and keep the size to under 5 which is really good because the sidewalks are narrow and if the group was large it would be hard to hear. With ony 4 people it was almost like a private tour and you heard everything. We have used GuruWalk in Vancouver, Copenhage, Amsterdam and Zurich and all tours have been excellent as was this one. As the weather got warm Charlene even tried to keep us on the shady part of the street.
