Let's get to know the inside of one of the most famous favelas? Let's visit the Michael Jackson statue? Of course I'm talking about the Favela Santa Marta!
The tour begins with a brief introduction to the plaza at the base of the favela.
To get to the top, we will use the telephone from Station 1. We will go up to the last one and begin our descent through the maze of stairs and corridors.
We will see the soccer field that served as a heliport for the arrival of Michael Jackson.
We will pass by the Santa Marta Chapel, which gives rise to the name of the community.
Down the stairs, we will reach the highlight stop of the tour: the terrace where the statue of the King of Pop is located and where he filmed part of his video clip "They Don't Care About Us."
We will have time to admire the view of the city with an ice-cold beer or a classic caipirinha!
We will visit some local businesses and we will have the opportunity to delve into the NGO Atitude Social, a social and educational project.
We will find vibrant murals that reflect the rich local culture.
Upon arriving at the Samba School, we will be able to attend a drum rehearsal.
Finally, we will return to our starting point, ending the tour.
The Favela Santa Marta tour is an opportunity to see beyond stereotypes and understand the resilience and creativity of its inhabitants, in addition to enjoying a unique view of Rio de Janeiro.
