VALLETTA, gastronomy, art and history in the Mediterranean.
Tour description
Do you want to know everything about Valletta? This is your tour.
Valletta is the smallest capital city in the European Union (with less than 6,000 inhabitants) and it is impossible to resist its charms. The history of Valletta is one of the richest in the Mediterranean. Why was it one of the most coveted cities in history? From the Ottoman Empire, the knights, Napoleon, the British, the Third Reich, ... I will show you the origins of the city and this emblematic centre named European Capital of Culture 2018. We will explore the alleys where the painter Caravaggio ran away from justice, the colourful balconies, film sets, as well as the historic buildings from the beginning of the 16th century.
What is a tour without getting to know the food? Maltese gastronomy, even though Valletta retains many memories of its British past (such as the telephone booths or its official co-language), has always been influenced by Italian food. During the tour I will take you to try the famous Pastizzi or where to eat a good pizza or have a cocktail with jazz, something that became fashionable during the dolce vita.
Don't worry, we have two schedules! In the morning, if you don't mind the Mediterranean heat, you can see the Barrakka Gardens, where cannon shots are still fired in honour of the military at midday. If you come in the afternoon, you'll see a more romantic Valletta and I'll show you unique places to take your sunset photos and where to have cocktails. At the end of our free tour, you'll feel like a Valletta local, you'll find a place to relax and also find places to try the best Maltese dishes.
We finish the tour at the door of St. John's Cathedral, if you still want more at the end of our free tour join me to visit the cathedral with Caravaggio's masterpiece. During the guided tour we will see: * Old train line. * Monumental entrance to Valletta. * New Parliament of Malta. * Malta Opera House. * Jean de Vallette * Chapel of Our Lady of Victories. * Auberge de Castilla. * Barraka Gardens. * Ursula Street. * .... and many more places
