Hi! My name is Paula and I'm in love with Patagonia. I'm a certificated guide and I would love to share my enthusiasm and knowledge about this remote land. My experience is not only as a guide but also as a traveler... I have traveled extensively not only in Patagonia: so far I've visited more than 40 countries in 3 continents, by car, train, bike, motorbike, kayak and even hitchhiking. I'm passionate about birds, and here we have more than 120 species! I believe in sustainable tourism and living in harmony with nature as way of life. I'm also very curious and that has helped me to learn a lot of interesting things that I will be happy to share. Lately I've been working in the redesign of one of the local museums, dedicated entirely to a shipwreck that happened 200 years ago, but which was discovered in the '80s, the HMS Swift. I love singing, writing, cooking and creating in every possible way (knitting, carpentry, baking...) Talking about creations, I have a one year daughter that will possibly join our walking tour. I speak fluid English and also mumble gracefully in Portuguese and French ;)

Tour description

Did you know that Puerto Deseado was named more than 400 years ago by an English explorer? Land of legendary "tehuelches", explorers such as Magellan, Cavendish and Darwin have visited this place for the last 5 centuries. What makes Puerto Deseado so special? Come and see it with your own eyes. A wide emerald green estuary is the stunning scenery where Puerto Deseado stands. With 15000 inhabitants, it is one of Argentina's main natural ports and has witnessed some famous shipwrecks, the constitution of the first private company in the whole territory, the rise-and-fall of the legendary Trans Patagonic Train, a bloody worker's strike and the close threat of the Malvina's war. In our tour we will visit some of the best examples of the fine local architecture, the church / lighthouse and the old train station. But this tour is not only about history. Puerto Deseado is surrounded with amazing natural areas. It is an obligated stop to visit the stunning diversity of isla Pingüino, home of many species such cormorants, sea lions, Comerson's dolphin and the local star, the rock-hopper penguin, and also other natural reserves as Cabo Blanco, Monte Loayza and Ría Deseado. We will follow the coast line of the ría to observe some birds to finish in Puerto Deseado's most popular beach to try some "mate", our national drink.
