Hello everyone! I'm Susanne from Athens, and I came to Bilbao in 2018 to visit the GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM and was captured by the hidden beauty of this fantastic Basque city. My love for the whole Basque Country is such that I became an Official Tour Guide to be able to offer tours to anyone would be interested to discover what I have discovered and enjoy Bilbao in its best. I 've joined the GuruWalk community since the summer of 2020 and so far, I had the chance to meet up hundreds of fascinating people, and that's the best thing about this job. Here, in Bilbao, we believe that "The Bilbainos born wherever they want" meaning that one does not has to get born here to be Basque and that's my case! Join my tour to discover the best parts of Bilbao and get to know a lot of stories about this very special nation, the Basques!
The district of Bilbao La Vieja is located on the other riverbank of the Old City, the so-called "The Left Side" and has coexisted with the Old City since its beginning. It became the centre of the industrial activity in the late 19th for its mining activity, and since the 70's until recently was the least favourable part of the city, its dark spot.
Nowadays, it´s the most alternative, multi - coloured, multi ethnic and most interesting neighbourhood of the city.
Art Centres and Galleries, creativity - focused businesses, ethnic restaurants and bars, the whole gay night life, all these together form the most inter- racial district of the city. It is a warm and authentic district, gathering as no other the mixture of people and arts, natives and emigrants, the very proud Basque-speaking Basque society, the gay community, foreign artists, etc. are proud to live in Bilbao la Vieja.
For that, most of the Street - Art paintings have been created here, and a great part of the tour is dedicated to the street art of Bilbao.
Join me in a very interesting, most alternative and less touristic tour, in which we'll discover quite a few hidden corners of a very interesting and true to its tradition, neighbourhood, Bilbao's real life.
All my groups of guests are strictly limited to 9-10 person for a more personal and private tour and because of the Covid 19 measures. For that reason, please be punctual at the time and the place of our meeting, because of the limited bookings of every tour.
Waiting outside the entrance of the Rivera Market (El Mercado de la Ribera) where there's the Ribera Bar, and I'll be holding a GuruWalk sign.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
