Tour description

Much more than a simple, plain visit to the ex-libris of the city, the Convent of Christ, this tour guides you and involves you in the mythic Templar History that the teletransports you to the beginning of Tomar’s history and the Templar Knights.

This place has become, throughout the decades, a live museum of Portuguese History having been in this same place where important Portuguese history pages were written. Leafing through this immense book we will get in touch with the most diverse styles and forms that coexist there, making it the greatest example of this magnitude in the world. From the Charole and its uniquely painted panels to the illustrious Capitulo window or the architecture of the main cloister

Our Tomar guide, David, was prompt, friendly, and full of not just information or history, but detailed stories of Tomar and its past. We would have missed so much without a guide! Highly recommend both the Tomar Town Tour as well as the Convent Tour!

David was amazing, we took the tour of the Tomar Castle and Convent and he was informative, personable, and a joy to spend time with – he was like a good friend who knew everything there was to know about the history of Tomar, the Castle, and the Convent and the connection between the history of Portugal. I honestly thought we might be challenging his patience because we asked TONS of questions but the reason we were asking questions is because David made the tour so incredibly interesting. If you are going to Tomar, DEFINITELY ask for David (if you can) because he is amazing but the one thing I would definitely add is to do a little preparation – the back and forth conversation with David was what made his tour special!!
