Free Tour Valencia Maritime
Tour description
One of the great attractions of Valencia is that it is a maritime city.
However, it has always been said that the "Cap i Casal" has turned its back on the sea.
Is that true? Or, if it was, is it still the case today?
We tell you all about it in our maritime Valencia tour, a walk where we will discover the origins of one of the most identity-rich neighborhoods of the capital of Turia.
We will meet in front of the Municipal Market of Cabañal, the neuralgic center of the neighborhood, to start our guided visit approaching the past, present, and future of this old fishing district.
We will walk through its peculiar urban layout looking for its modernist facades with colorful tiles and floral motifs. Did you know that originally Cabañal was a locality purely made up of huts?
Along the way, we will find picturesque and eclectic buildings like the La Estrella Theater, Fish Market, or the Bear House, but we will also find examples of urban art that have increasingly proliferated in the neighborhood.
During the tour, we will get to know its gastronomy, its festivals, and the lifestyle of its people and all those characters who were captivated by Cabañal, such as the writer Blasco Ibáñez or the artist Joaquín Sorolla, whose paintings depict maritime scenes that took place on the beaches of this charming neighborhood.
Speaking of its beach, our steps will lead us there to explain Valencia's intimate relationship with the sea.
We will walk past the Las Arenas Spa, now converted into a luxury hotel and which was the scene of wave baths for the aristocracy in the early 19th century. Did you know it became the origin of beach vacations?
We will stroll through the Marina area, which currently tries to integrate leisure and culture of the maritime neighborhoods; a good example is the Veles e Vents building, constructed during the America's Cup. Do you know what this event was about?
With this wonderful view of the port, accompanied by the sea breeze, we will discover such characteristic buildings as the Shipyard, the Sheds… where modernist decoration still stands out.
We will say goodbye at the unique Clock Building, now truly captivated by the sea.
