Tour description

Moin! I do believe you already know quite a lot about Hamburg! Is here the biggest red light district in Europe? True. Do we have more bridges than any other city in the world? Yes. Is there any connection between Hamburg and hamburgers? Absolutely.

But have you ever heard about the biggest urban development in Europe? Don`t be surprised to find out that it is taking place right here (and now!), in the former harbor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. It's called HafenCity and this is where we are going to have a wonderful in-depth 2-hours walk together. The secret "city within the city" is a perfect place to study various aspects of North-Germany history, culture, architecture, and their vision of the future.

Here is the carefully designed route for our exploration:

  • Elbphilharmonie (start of the tour). The role of the "Star Architecture" in the urban context.
  • Trdlo FactoryFood and the City.
  • Magellan-Terrassen. Housing in the Future City.
  • HafenCity University (HCU). Educational hub for Architecture and Metropolitan Development.
  • HafenCity Aussichtspunkt (end of the tour). 360° viewpoint at the harbor "giraffes" and ambitious ideas of the northern Germans.

I am inviting you to join me for this tour and you will get a lot of knowledge and inspiration from an architect and a real city-lover.

Thank you dear Zhenya so much this awesome walk & talk! I’ve been living in Hamburg for 7 years and I learned so many interesting things about this part of the city! Especially I enjoyed your way of showing HafenCity from your individual and professional point of view of an architect. It was so special to me and made the tour very unique! I’d definitely repeat it!

It's an incredible experience to explore the city through the eyes of an architect. Eugenia put her personal invaluable experience as an architect and teacher in Asia and Sweden into this tour and gave us the opportunity to touch the city with a different perspective. Eugenia is a warm person and is happy to share a piece of her knowledge. I was greatly impressed and would wholeheartedly recommend joining the tour if you get the chance!

Evgeniia has a really strong background in architecture and urban development, which means you get a unique perspective on the city that you probably couldn't get on other tours. Hafencity is a cool little corner of Hamburg that may not pop up alongside a google of the more famous districts. I probably wouldn't have known to give it a walk through if we hadn't done this tour, so I'm really glad we got to learn about it!

Evgeniia is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. She created this tour of Hafen city based on her interest on urban design and guided us through the recent and new developments in the area, starting from the Elbephilarmonie. Thanks to her help we could explore this district outside of the most popular touristic areas. Highly recommended to anyone who is interested in planning, architecture and urban design!
