Tour description

Meet the guide at the bus stop and take  the local bus to the top of the hill. (10 lira) Walk to Hallaç Manastır (Hospital Monastery) and explore the 1000 year old cave ruins.

Continue walking down Ortahisar Valley through farmland and orchards to reach Ürgüp’s bustling local outdoor market. The hike is approximately 6.5 km, dusty (or snowy/muddy in winter) a moderate level of fitness is required.

At the market we’ll refresh ourselves with a glass of tea, then go shopping. You will find everything a Turkish household needs: fresh vegetables and fruit, local cheeses, preserves and dried fruits plus clothes, shoes and all kinds of things useful for the current season. It’s a lively social hub. Bring a pocketful of small money, chat with the stall holders and stock up on snacks.

The tour ends at the market. The guide will give you suggestions for other things to explore in Ürgüp and will show you where to catch the local bus back to Göreme or on to Mustafapaşa.
