One of the best walking tours I’ve ever done – John was exceptional! I absolutely loved Parliament vs King: The Long Road to Democracy. From beginning to end, John was fantastic. His knowledge of the subject is incredible, but what really sets him apart is his ability to bring history completely to life. Rather than simply giving you dates and facts, John tells the story in a way that makes you feel as though you are actually following the events as they unfolded. The battles between Parliament and the monarchy, the personalities involved, the political intrigue and the long, complicated road towards democracy were explained brilliantly. Even the more complex parts were easy to understand and genuinely fascinating. John has exactly what you want from a great walking-tour guide: passion, humour, enthusiasm and an obvious love for the history he is sharing. He kept everyone engaged throughout and struck the perfect balance between being informative and entertaining. There was never a moment when it felt like a history lecture — it felt like a great storyteller taking you through an extraordinary chapter of British history. The route is also very well thought out. Stopping at the actual places connected to the events makes the stories so much more powerful, and I came away looking at London with completely different eyes. What impressed me most was how much I learned without ever feeling overwhelmed with information. By the end, I had a much better understanding of how the relationship between Parliament, the monarchy and ordinary people evolved over centuries and helped shape the democracy we know today. If you're considering booking this walk, do it. Whether you already love history or know very little about the subject, John will make it interesting. This is exactly what a great GuruWalk should be — informative, entertaining, memorable and delivered by someone who genuinely knows and loves their subject. A brilliant tour, an excellent route and an outstanding guide. Thank you, John — I thoroughly enjoyed every minute and would happily join another of your walks. Highly, highly recommended!

This is the second tour with Justin. We often do guided tours and he is one of the best guides we ever met. He is full of information and brings it sharp en entertaining. We often visit the south bank, and this tour showed us this area of London in a new way.

Alex was very knowledgeable and he had done his research. Having been born and raised in the neighborhood, he had personally observed the changes brought on by gentrification of what had been a more depressed area. He wove stories that made the tour come to life. We highly recommend his tour.

I learned so much during this tour and it was really interesting how the history related to the locations on the tour. Our guide was very knowledgable and was able to answer all the questions we asked.

Having been on many walking tours while on holidays abroad in the past, this was my first tour in the UK and the first I've done in a number of years. I chose it based on route and historical period; a relatively unspoken about area (ahead of Westminster of course), and a truly fascinating part of history that often gets overlooked in favour of more modern times, but of which London is rich in resources. John's tour proved exactly that - it was brilliant to actually see artefacts from 17th and 18th centuries en route to illustrate the stories he told. He stitched together king and church, parliament, and treachery, weaving entertainment and facts naturally into his presentation. The tour was so much more than a story of crown versus government! The route was quiet and varied, a really enjoyable walk through some beautiful sights (I especially enjoyed the church and inn courtyards - I'd never have found them by myself), and the pace was very manageable, making for a thoroughly enjoyable trip on a summer's day. I left feeling really energised, having learned loads about periods of history that I'd not encountered before. John's storytelling and narrative was informative, clear and engaging. I'd thoroughly recommend this tour!
