Welcome to the city of Cárdenas, city of First Fruits, flag city!
We will meet in front of the Cardenas Theater on Calle Real . We will walk to the Jose Antonio Echeverria Park to learn a little more about the colonial buildings around the park . We start the walking tour with an explanation about the history and culture of this important city where you will learn why Ciudad de las Primicias.
We will walk along Calle Real until we approach emblematic places of Parque Colón where we will appreciate its Cathedral , the first statue of Christopher Columbus made in Latin America and the La Dominica building where the national flag was raised for the first time.
We will know the legend of a buoy that arrived near the Cathedral due to a strong hurricane that affected the city in the 1930s . We will visit the monument of the national flag where they will learn why it is renowned as Flag City . We will also visit the surroundings of the old Cárdenas train station and the area of the old Rechabala distillery.
Optionally, they could taste 3 types of rums in this new facility of the Vizcaya project and learn about the complete manufacturing process of Cuban rums. We finish the tour in the center of the city for those who wish to buy souvenirs at the Craft Fair.
