Unconventional Tour. Introduction to Barcelona Old Town: El Raval, the neglected neighbourhood
Tour description
El Raval, the neighbourhood where I landed when I arrived in Barcelona almost 20 years ago, is a vibrant and eclectic quarter in the heart of Barcelona, known for its multicultural atmosphere and lively streets. But, it’s also a place with an inconvenient past at least for the official side of the old town and the city of Barcelona, and still nowadays is often referred to as a dangerous place.
We will take a walk of this area passing by the most interesting sites but also having an immersive experience that delves deeper into the neighbourhood's rich history, art scene, and diverse culture discovering the places where many history and legends of the old times of Barcelona took place.
We will pass by:
- Three chimneys (La Canadenca)
- Portal of Santa Madrona and medieval walls
- Royal Shipyards and Customs Palace
- Monument to Columbus
- Sant Pau del Camp
- Plaza del Pedró
- Rambla Raval
- Hospital de la Santa Creu
- Boqueria Market
Moving from one place to another we will walk through the narrow street of the Raval:
- Carrer del Cid
- Carrer de l'Om
- Carrer de la Reina Amalia
- Carrer de la Cera
- Carrer d'en Botella
- Carrer de Sant Pau
- Carrer d'en Robadors
- Passatge de Bernardí Martorell
- Carrer de l'Hospital
- Carrer del Carme
During our walk we will also discover:
- Is there a relation between architecture and revolution?
- Why is the working day eight hours?
- What is a Rambla?
- When and why was La Boqueria born?
- How did the Raval come to be known as a dangerous area?
I am waiting for you! This tour of El Raval is an unforgettable experience that will leave you with a deeper understanding and appreciation of this area of Barcelona.
