About the tour

San Marcos is one of the oldest districts of Quito, founded by the Spaniards as a parish for Indigenous people in 1595. The oldest structure very well preserved is the small church, built in 1600. Even though this neighborhood has been far from the main square in Colonial times, it was the witness of many historical events such as revolts and the Independence first attempt in 1809. Its houses have kept the secrets of many stories that occurred throughout the centuries. It is a wonderful open air museum of architecture with one of the best samples of the city.

Some museums, art galleries, workshops, restaurants and hostels are now part of its charm. I invite you to discover the magic of a place that combines history with arts and the real life of a residential neighborhood.
