Free Tour of the Gardens of the La Granja Palace
Tour description
We will meet in front of the Royal Collegiate Church of the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso , the starting point to understand why Philip V and Isabel de Farnesio made this place their refuge: a palace with French-style gardens adapted to the personality of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
From the Patio de la Herradura, we begin a journey through the symbolism of the fountains: Vertumnus and Pomona appear in the Jungle fountain; then, the Neptune and Amphitrite fountains introduce us to the language of courtly power; further on, the Fuente de los Vientos (Flowers of the Winds) leads us to some curious dragons and the geometric layout of the Plaza de las Ocho Calles .
We will continue with the Frog Fountain and the legend of Latona until we reach the most spectacular end: the Baths of Diana and the monumental Fountain of Fame , whose vertical jet proclaims the Bourbon prestige.
